Bloomberg staff volunteers joined Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA) at Daveyton Intermediate School on 16 April 2019 in early celebration of Earth Day 2019, an international day of environmental awareness and climate action. The company donated thirty fruit trees and ten indigenous shade trees which were planted as part of a team-building CSI day.
The staff and learners of Daveyton Intermediate School in Benoni, Gauteng, were extremely excited to host the Bloomberg staff volunteers at their school. After a warm welcome, the learners and volunteers planted the trees together, sharing smiles whilst learning about the best way to plant and look after a young tree.
Daveyton Intermediate School expressed their excitement at the new orchard these fruit trees will create and the resultant enhancement to food security and nutrition they will represent. So too were the ten indigenous shade trees gratefully received and planted in order to establish a much-needed windbreak and to provide shade for the learners for many decades to come.
